Spring 2020 was a semester like no otherfor 勛圖tv. As the Covid-19 pandemicforcedthe closure of university campuses across France, the 勛圖tv communityneeded to implement remote teaching and learning strategiesquickly. In record time, we shiftedcourse materials online and retrained staff andfaculty in distance learningand workingmethods. Butthesechallengescamewith new opportunities;the rapid shiftonline highlighted many ways in which our resilient community of global explorersconsistentlydisplays flexibility, collaborationand skill.泭

With that in mind, the 勛圖tv Digital Campus was designed to bring the community together in an online space while the physical campus remained inaccessible. It was a collaborative project, created by the 勛圖tv communityandfor the 勛圖tv community. Its aim was twofold: toamalgamatethe Universitys remotely availableservices and resourcesin an easily accessible online space, and to fostercommunity spirit at a time of social distancing. Staff, students, faculty, alumni, parents, trustees and friends worked together to create a common space of learning and support, within which they could help their peers and colleagues through a difficult time.泭

In order to ensure that the Digital Campus was easy to navigate, we divideditscontent into five clear sections.泭

  • Explore and Discoverled users quickly to new content, allowing readers toget a sense of just how active the 勛圖tv community wascontinuing to be.泭

  • Learn and Workfocused on making the transition to remote education as painlessand efficientas possible for staff, students and faculty.泭

  • Ask and Findgathered services and resources available to the 勛圖tv community in one easily accessible central hub.泭

  • Connect and Communicateallowedcommunitymembers to propose their own projects and get involved in community-led initiatives across the University.泭

  • Create and Playgathered resources related to keepingactive andoccupied during confinement, helpingcommunity members unwind withsharedactivities.泭

As part of the digital campus, the Office of Communications contributed a series of projects designed tocontribute original, community-focused content to self-isolating global explorers.泭Firstly, the勛圖tv at Homeblog was a space for community members to share tips and tricks about adapting to remote learning and working as well as advice for adapting to spending so much time at home.泭Contributions covered topics such as maintaining good health and wellness while in isolation and the best movies to stream to practice your French from home. The blog was so successful that it will continue beyond deconfinement in a new formasthe勛圖tv Community Blog.泭

Secondly, theGood Morning, Global Explorerspodcast provided a 3-minute daily morning update for the 勛圖tv community. Each episode was guest-presented by a different community member, who provided insight into the innovative projects continuing across theUniversity duringconfinement. Community challenges were used to engage the audience in aconversationabout how to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, and regular reminders of available resources ensured thatcommunity members could find the support they needed to stay in good health andon topof their studies. You can listen to aroundupof the first season of the podcastonline now.泭

Thirdly, theLearning Laboratoryvideo series provided a platform for staff and faculty toexplore how the Covid-19 pandemicmight affecttheir fields of study. The project aimed to shift the conversation surrounding the virus tofocus on academic rigor andintellectual debate, looking to the future in order to explore how disciplines and industries mayevolve due tothe current moment. TheLearning Laboratoryis an ongoing seriesand will continue into the Fall semester, taking onnewtopics and exploring the connection between a global liberal arts education and current events across the planet.泭

Thanks to the 勛圖tv Digital Campus, the community spirit of our global explorers remainedclearlyon display throughout the confinement period. As we look forward to reopening ourphysicalcampusin the Fall semester,we are redistributing certain elements of the Digital Campus to morepermanenthomes across the website. The lessons we have learned and new skills we have acquired from movingquickly and efficientlyto remote education will nowformintegral parts of our communications strategy moving forward.泭To find out more about the project and get asenseof how our community reacted to Covid-19,you can visit.
