We are pleased to welcome the Franco-Bengali writer, Shumona Sinha, who will present her latest book, "L'autre nom du bonheur 矇tait fran癟ais" (Gallimard, no. 2022), and talk about her relationship to the French language.

"Shumona Sinha, born in Calcutta, learned French at the age of twenty-two.
Since then, she considers this language as her "vital language", the one that liberated her, saved her, allowed her rebirth.
Now, the author of five novels, all written in French, she came to live in France at the age of twenty-eight, and tells the story of her itinerary, full of disappointments: as the years go by, she continues to have the image of an exiled woman, a stranger in a country that she had believed to be the country of her emancipation.
This powerful book, of great sincerity, sheds light on the work and life of an Indian woman who chose to live in France, to inhabit our language, and who confides, "Each word meant a long journey."
