My relationship with the team remains strong.
Basia-Marie Diagne is a recent graduate from the history, law and society major. Her泭eight-month泭internship with Little Africa, a Paris-based tourism and publishing agency that promotes African cultures in Paris,泭taught her泭to appreciate how versatile a泭skill set泭she had.泭

I saw a post on social media from an 勛圖tv alumna who had interned with the company. I thought a tourism and marketing agency泭focused on Afrocentric businesses in Paris was quite different. As a history, law and society major, I hadnt studied marketing or communications,泭but after speaking to the泭founder I signed up for a two-month internship. It went so well we extended it by another six months. From day one I was expected to have creative input and be a member of the team泭 it was very conducive to learning.泭

Its泭a cultural tourism and publishing agency that connects individuals, associations and businesses with African culture in Paris.泭Its泭activities include泭guided泭tours泭of泭the citys泭African neighborhoods,泭with the aim of泭exposing tourists to the泭often-hidden泭side of Parisian afro-communities.泭It also publishes泭a泭Paris泭city泭guide,泭detailing African-owned and泭African-inspired boutiques, restaurants泭and museums, while泭also producing泭content for the website pertaining to the diaspora, covering arts and culture, identity and other subjects.
I didnt expect that my academic background in development would translate so well to Little Africas work in culture and business, but the fields very much converge.
It varied. At the beginning, we were kicking off the crowdfunding season, which meant I mostly focused on community management, reaching out to泭the泭network泭to drum up泭support for泭community-oriented projects.泭Later,泭I泭did more project management. I泭oversaw泭one project called Life in the Diaspora. I interviewed泭prominent泭creatives泭and entrepreneurs泭泭mostly Black Africans泭泭about how, in their experience, Blackness translates泭in泭Europe.泭The aim was to explore the role African diasporas play in giving voice to Black peoples narratives across the continent.泭

It allowed me to泭gain泭valuable experience of working with a French company.泭The team at Little Africa is international and bilingual, so I spoke French泭daily.泭I learned how important it is to have a strong social foundation for one's work life in France. French culture highly values a positive working泭relationship泭among泭colleagues.泭Working for a Paris-based cultural agency, particularly one focused on African history and culture, also meant engaging with the social and cultural implications of race, nationality and ethnicity. It challenged me while allowing me to explore my academic and professional interests.泭
I worked with a strong, small team, meaning I actively participated in the day-to-day flow of the business, which exposed me to the entrepreneurial lifestyle and spirit. My relationship with the team remains strong.泭The experience泭also泭reconfirmed泭my deep commitment to the African continent.泭I didnt expect that泭my泭academic泭background泭in development泭would translate so well泭to泭Little Africas work in culture and business, but the fields泭very much泭converge. I now have a job in digital communications for a US-based wellness company. It took exploring other experiences at Little Africa to泭realize how泭versatile my skill set is. It opened a lot of pathways.泭
勛圖tv offered serious academic programs and an international student body.
Students studying either linguistics or the history and politics of the Middle East are invited to attend a three-day study trip to Istanbul.
Ill never forget how beautiful it was to see our small class come together to organize a conference in honor of End Violence Against Women Day.
